Stéphane Mesnage, PI (2012-2037? ← the year I'm told I can retire) The picture sums it up, I tend to spend most of my existence being confused. Things usually work out ok at the end. I came to Sheffield for a sabbatical in Simon Foster's lab in 2010 and for some reason never made it back to France. * Raj Bahadur, Postdoc BBSRC funding (2023-2026) Peptidoglycan remodelling during the Rhizobium-legume symbiosis Raj did his PhD in Hyderabad (India) in Manjula Reddy's lab, working on E. coli L,D-transpeptidases. Raj shares a bizarre fascination for peptidoglycan, and is addicted to LC-MS experiment, which is both a blessing and a curse. In his spare time, Raj loves to watch science fiction and action movies. Finn O'Dea , PhD student Whiterose iCASE DTP (BBSRC) funding (2023-2027) Enterococcus cecorum virulence and recognition by bacteriophages Finn completed his undergraduate Masters at the University of Sheffield and loved it so much that he decided to stay for a PhD. His undergraduate studies introduced him to the joy of NMR which has become his passion. In his spare time Finn is a climbing and Brazilian Jiu jitsu enthusiast (despite being terrible at both). So he says... Krishna Sanjay Chellappa, PhD student DiMeN DTP (MRC) funding (2023-2027) Characterization of enterococcal bacteriophages Krish is a self-proclaimed AMR enthusiast who completed an integrated MSc course in microbiology, working on S. aureus phages at the University of Manchester. After a year in the industry as a clinical trial coordinator for the NHS Christie, he decided to come back to do a PhD. Krish spends his spare time runnning, cooking, playing the drums and binging on anime for fun! Brooks Rady, PhD student ACCE DTP (NERC) funding (2022-2026) Peptidoglycan remodelling during the Rhizobium-legume symbiosis Brooks spent most of his time in education being indecisive — starting a degree in Bioengineering before changing course and graduating with a BSc in Molecular Biology. Still not wanting to make up his mind, he's set out on a PhD that will let him live with one foot in the world of computing and the other in the realm of biology. Outside of the lab, Brooks (rather poorly) balances his time between climbing, photography, reading, and contributing to open source.
Marcel Gustavo Alaman Zarate, PhD student Conacyt funding (2022-2026) Peptidoglycan dynamics during growth and division Marcel did a MSc in Synthetic Biology in Mexico. It took 3 years to secure funding for this project but he finally made it to Sheffield in March 2022! Marcel like reading books, especially old second hand books (I love their scent). Jessie Davis, PhD student BBSRC Whiterose funding (2019-2023) Co-supervised by Mike Williamson Analysis of EPA structure and function Jessie studied in Leeds where she got a BSc in biochemistry, then did an MSc in Warwick. In her spare time, Jessie enjoys climbing, board games and eventually overlap extension PCR.
Josh Norwood, PhD student MRC DiMeN funding (2019-2023) Co-supervised by Phil Elks and Endre Kiss Toth Role of EPA during host-pathogen interactions Josh studied in Sheffield where he graduated with an MBiolSci. During his previous life in Sheffield, he worked on S. aureus, S. pneumoniae before moving to E. faecalis. In his spare time, Josh enjoys playing golf, walking in the Peak District and visiting new places. He also likes reading and watching films, especially horror, science fiction and fantasy. |
